3 Signs It’s Time for A New Thermostat
Depending on where you live, your home’s thermostat may freeze during the winter or fry in the summer. It may seem like a small appliance that doesn’t require much attention, but as with many devices in your home, it can impact your energy efficiency and usage habits. If you notice any of the following warning signs it might be time to acquire a new thermostat:
It’s Too Hot or Too Cold in Certain Rooms
You might be dealing with a faulty thermostat if a few rooms are too hot or cold while the rest of the house is in a comfortable range. This isn’t always the case, as problems with your system can lead to cold and hot spots.
It would be best to seek a service technician’s expertise. They’ll do a thorough inspection to determine the source of the problem.
If your thermostat is to blame, they’ll troubleshoot to see if they can restore its efficacy. However, if you’re constantly tweaking and adjusting your device but can’t get rid of the problem, it’s probably time to get a new one.
You Have To Turn It off and On Again
When your thermostat is functioning correctly, it’ll turn itself on when the house gets too cold or too hot and off when it reaches the desired temperature. If it constantly goes off and on but you don’t notice a temperature change, it’s time for a new thermostat.
Some of the issues that may cause it to act that way are a faulty sensor, loose wiring and electrical issues. Although repairs can solve some of them, you should consider installing a new device if the problem doesn’t go away after repairs.
The HVAC System Constantly Operates
If your HVAC system is constantly running, even when the house is adequately heated or cooled, you might be dealing with a malfunctioning device. Your thermostat acts as the brain of your system, directing it when to run or stop.
A faulty device will cause the system to run constantly as it doesn’t know when to stop. This not only affects your comfort but also increases your system’s energy consumption.
If this is the case with your current device, it’s best to seek expert advice. They’ll check to see if repairs with do or installing a new thermostat is your only option.
